FAQ
Answers to common questions
Don’t see your question here? Feel free to reach out! I’m always happy to answer questions.
Do you accept any other insurances that aren’t listed above?
It’s very possible that I can accept an insurance not listed above.
To find out, send me a message with your insurance information and I can run an insurance verification to determine whether I’m credentialed with your plan. Photos of your insurance cards always help!
Do you offer other payment options?
Yes, cash rates or private payment options are always available.
Do you offer any discounted rates for therapy?
While I hope to offer sliding scale rates in the future, I do not offer any discounts for session rates at this time.
What is your approach to therapy?
I believe that our early experiences created patterns that have become so familiar that we’re often unaware of them. My goal is to help you build awareness, so that you know what these patterns look like for you. Through this work, you may also find that you’ve outgrown some of these patterns so that they’re no longer useful for you or even get in your way. That’s where we’ll work together to explore your strengths to find alternative ways of working that come naturally for you.
Do you offer couples or family counseling?
No, I do not offer counseling for couples, families, or adolescents.
Is there a difference between counseling and psychotherapy?
While the terms “counseling” and “therapy” can often be used interchangeably, there is a slight distinction that can be useful to understand.
“Counseling” typically refers to a short-term therapeutic relationship that focuses on supporting you in achieving specific goals, usually within 3-4 months.
“Psychotherapy”, however, tends to involve a long-term therapeutic relationship that can span the course of years. Instead of focusing on short-term goals, psychotherapy looks deeper to understand the experiences that have shaped you and how they impact you today. It also provides you with the space to explore who you are, gain a better understanding of yourself, and even practice new behaviors that help you achieve your goals – all while helping you uncover and process emotions along the way.
So are you a counselor or a psychotherapist?
Both! My licenses all refer to me as a counselor: I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois, and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan.
However, I prefer to refer to myself as a psychotherapist because I think it more accurately describes the work I do. Although I can provide both counseling and psychotherapy services, psychotherapy is my preference because I think it yields better results in the long-run.
